Voluntary Action Rutland

VAR, based at the Rutland Community Hub on Lands’ End Way in Oakham, next to Lidl, currently has vacancies for volunteer Reception Assistants. The purpose of the role is to carry out general reception duties under the day-to-day direction of the Centre Manager. Times to be covered are Mondays and Fridays, 09:30–13:00.

Tasks include performing general reception duties; welcoming visitors and callers; answering the phone, transferring calls and taking messages; taking room bookings; hiring out office equipment; and taking part in volunteer social events. Attributes for the role include a friendly, helpful attitude; good communication & organisational skills; confidence in working in a busy office environment; and basic IT skills.

On-the-job training is provided, and Reception Volunteers usually work in pairs. Staff supervision and support are there as a matter of course. VAR is a friendly and happy place to work. Tea, coffee, etc. are all provided, as is free parking. Out of pocket travelling expenses, including mileage, within Rutland will be reimbursed on submission of receipts and claimed on an expenses form.

All VAR Volunteers are required to observe its Health & Safety, Confidentiality and Good Practice policies.
